O’clock

Modo & Modo

1998

The coupling between the body and the transparent dome is achieved simply through buttons formed directly during thermoforming, adopting the same concept as blister packaging found on retail display racks. The resulting structure is extremely light, solid and virtually indestructible.

O’Clock was conceived as an open palette to be customized by different designers and artists. The dial has been interpreted by Konstantin Grcic, Tullio Pericoli, Sottsass Associati, Emilio Tadini, Guido Morozzi and Christoph Radl.

The innovative idea behind O’Clock lies in the connection system between the dial and the transparent dome, directly derived from packaging techniques. The two components, thermoformed from thin sheets, are joined by buttons created directly in the molding process. Once assembled, they form a structure of remarkable solidity and robustness.
